East Lancashire Hospice officially reopens after extensive redesign

East Lancashire Hospice - a Stanton Andrews project

To mark East Lancashire Hospice’s 35th anniversary, the Blackburn hospice has undergone an extensive renovation to its facilities creating a new state-of-the-art café restaurant named Café Retreat, which will be open to the public.

Stanton Andrews was appointed by East Lancashire Hospice to rethink the design and layout of the key areas in their building including in-patient, out-patient and visitors’ amenities, bedrooms and staff facilities. The trustees also wanted to provide a non-denominational contemplation room, an activities area and create landscaped courtyards and garden areas.

Stanton Andrews’ design included significant remodelling of the building, which had to be carried out in phases to keep the hospice operational throughout. Careful and regular liaison was required to minimise disruption.

The hospice offers many different services which are available to people with life-limiting illnesses. Including inpatient and palliative care, support therapies, community services and counselling which were all still in operation during the renovations and building works.

The new facilities at the Hospice were officially opened on 22nd February 2019.
