A hub building with an agricultural feel
Stanton Andrews was tasked with creating a hub building for an outdoor adventure centre in ‘Devil’s Elbow’ between Simonstone and Read and to address associated amenities including parking, pedestrian access and delivery areas within the complex.
Our approach to the building design was to create a clean and uncluttered space, based on the reinterpretation of robust agricultural sheds, complete with sharp angular roof lines.
The resulting series of staggered ‘agricultural’ buildings houses a café, retail space and changing room area. A large covered glassed-roofed area connects the hub buildings.
The hub buildings are clad in timber and zinc. They have been designed to be easily extended and allow the module to to enable extensions and a mezzanine floor added at a future date.
Planning approval has been obtained for the hub building, with a start made to secure the consent. As the original developers are no longer involved in the project, the land owners are now exploring options for further development.
