Open Plan Kitchen and Family Area

Stanton Andrews was approached by this Edinburgh client to create a kitchen and family area with access to the garden for their large detached property. Careful selection of materials was imperative to the final design solution.

The design involved choosing stonework carefully detailed to match the original mid 19th century house. Zinc was used for the roofing and the main rear stair window was not compromised by the extension. Detailed computer modelling was used throughout the design process to help explore options and fully understand how the house would look and feel, when the work was completed.

The new multi-function family room has the kitchen at its heart, with large sandstone steps leading down to a dining and seating area. Large sliding glazed doors and a wrap-around window enable the family room to open directly onto the terrace and garden.

Our involvement in this house design from conception to completion and adopting a sympathetic but contemporary approach to this project is characteristic of Stanton Andrews’ professional architectural design work.

UPDATE

We have received some photographs from our client showing the extension with landscaping and gardens complete.
