Competition Entry for Mixed Use Harbour Front Development

The competition asked for apartments twinned with commercial accommodation on a prominent site fronting the harbour.

The proposals intentionally built upon the 1930’s seaside aesthetic with clean lines, sandstone and glass. The stone also matched to nearby cliffs. The layout of the buildings kept to the Georgian streetscape. A promenade along the sea wall provided a family friendly space to enjoy the harbour and marine craft.

Penthouse residences were stepped back that both minimised their impact but also to give immense views of the North Sea and the distant Scottish hills.

The elevational treatment and choice of materials reflected the stone banding prominent in the nearby cliffs. A new court/urban square provided an open space and focus to the development and created a new link leading from the town to the harbour.
