Light and Space
Ribble Valley Council has given the go ahead for our clients to turn an old dark farmhouse into a celebration of light and space.
Our clients approached us, having just bought an old house, with a number of aspirations to make it fit their needs, which included extra space, a good connection to the garden and a place for homeschooling their disabled child.
Stanton Andrews Architects’ design gives the family a singular house with large open plan, easily accessible areas that will be filled with light due to large windows and doors that allow easy access to and views of the garden and beyond.
Our design purposefully leaves the front of the house untouched apart from remedial work. A stunning new two-storey addition is planned for the rear of the house which is joined to the existing building by a lightweight glazed link. This new space will feature an open-plan kitchen and dining area and wrap-around glazed wall with wide access to the garden. The main building also has new wide doors onto the terrace giving the whole property an airy and spacious feel.
The family will also gain an extra bedroom and en-suite upstairs with vaulted ceiling height windows to enjoy the house’s rural aspect.
Construction is expected to start soon.
