Britain’s Best Pub Conversion
CAMRA has awarded Bowland Beer Hall the award of “Conversion to Pub Use”. The pub has been created in the heart of a former textile mill, and it now forms the centrepiece of a larger scheme which has taken Holmes Mill from redundant building to a landmark in the town of Clitheroe. The Beer Hall has one of the longest bars in Britain at 105 feet and with 42 hand pulls.
Notably the whole scheme features many of the original fixtures and fittings. Great care has been taken in the development of this mill to retain its character and indeed much of the infrastructure and machinery that remained. Architect Charles Stanton worked closely with Emporia Leisure (owner of Bowland Brewery and James’ Places) to ensure that the heritage of this magnificent construction was not lost, and even more was celebrated.
The mill now houses a hotel, bistro, food court and restaurant with more planned for the next phase.
